In 1999 the Federal Government commenced a program of consultation to achieve further improvements to vehicle exhaust emissions from vehicles converted to LPG.

New requirements assure that retro fitted LPG systems will retain the original vehicle emission compliance on vehicles plated after 2003, and has been incorporated in the 2003 edition of the Australian Standards AS/NZ1425-2003 LP Gas Fuel System for Vehicle Engines.
